Spring (Mar-May): lambs, blossom, waterfalls at full power, crowds not yet arrived — the value season. Summer (Jun-Aug): 17-18 hour daylight and every attraction open, but peak prices, peak crowds and midges in the west. Budget → November or January-February (40-60% hotel savings). Festivals → August (Fringe/Tattoo) or 31 December (Hogmanay). Aurora hopes → October-March, peak January-February. Family with school-age kids → July-August is your window; book six months out. Avoiding crowds above all → November or February, midweek.
