The hard truths: accommodation triples and books out by April — commit early or stay in Glasgow/Stirling and train in (50 minutes, runs past midnight in August); restaurants need bookings; and the city runs at 150% capacity for four weeks. The move that transforms the trip: after 4-5 festival days of noise, basements and 2am comedy, escape north — a 2-3 day Highland journey lands like a cold plunge after a sauna. Glencoe's silence is never louder than in August, and Skye's crowds thin dramatically past 6pm when the day-trippers leave and you're staying in Portree.
