Bus passengers see it through a window at 60mph; private-tour guests stop at all of it. Verdict by traveller type: solo backpacker → bus (accept the island-stranding, join local tours from Portree); groups of 2-6 → private tour, where £480/vehicle splits to bus-ticket money with a full sightseeing day included.
