Route A — Skye Classic (the bestseller): Day 1 Glencoe → Glenfinnan → Eilean Donan → Portree overnight; Day 2 Storr → Kilt Rock → Quiraing → return. Maximum drama, maximum photos, ~900km. Route B — Loch Ness Highlands (the gentler loop): Day 1 Pitlochry → Culloden → Inverness overnight; Day 2 Loch Ness cruise → Urquhart → Glencoe → return. History-rich, less driving, better for older travellers. Route C — Castle Coast (the repeat-visitor's pick): Day 1 St Andrews → Dunnottar → Aberdeen overnight; Day 2 Balmoral → Braemar → Pitlochry → return. Golf, granite and royalty, zero crowds.

The Decision & The Practicals

The decision tree: first visit + fit for a big day → Route A, no contest; travelling with parents or prefer stories to hikes → Route B; been to Skye already, or golf/castles are the mission → Route C.
