Tour Reviews — What to Trust
Scotland Tour Reviews — Reading Them Like an Investigator
Five-star averages hide more than they reveal — the fake-review tells, the platform biases and the three review types actually worth your reading time.
The Tells and the Biases
Fake-review tells: bursts of reviews in the same week; reviewer profiles with one lifetime review; generic praise naming no driver, route or moment ('amazing tour, highly recommend!'); and perfect 5.0 averages over hundreds of reviews — real operations collect the occasional 4 from a rainy day. Platform biases worth knowing: TripAdvisor rankings weight review velocity, so big-volume coach operators dominate regardless of quality; affiliate 'best tours' articles rank by commission paid; and Google Business is hardest to game at scale — which makes it the least-bad single source, especially the owner's responses (defensive replies to criticism reveal more than the criticism).
How the price actually works
We price by the day, not by the mile. Day tours run £580–£640 for the business seven-seater depending on route; the ten-day loop is £6,400 for the whole trip; six days is £3,840. That covers fuel, parking, tolls and the chauffeur-guide, with no fuel surcharge or overtime fee at the end. Accommodation, if we arrange it, runs about £200 per room per night and is charged after hotels confirm.
How party size changes the per-person cost
The vehicle price is fixed, so more people means a lower share each. The ten-day loop at £6,400 works out at £3,200 each for two, or £1,600 each for four. Accommodation goes the other way: two guests need one room, four need two. All in, four travellers typically pay 25–30% less per person than two.
What we will not do
We will not push you into shops or restaurants that pay commission, add items you did not ask for and charge for them, or tell you a hotel is good if we have not used it. If your plan does not fit the days, or self-drive would genuinely be better value for you, or a small-group tour suits you more — we will say so, even when it costs us the booking.
