York: The Medieval Morning
約克(York)packs 2,000 years into a walkable half-mile: the Shambles(肉舖街)— overhanging Tudor butchers' shops so evocative they're widely credited as Diagon Alley's inspiration (two Harry Potter shops now trade on it; go before 10am for the empty photo); 約克大教堂(York Minster), northern Europe's largest Gothic cathedral with the Great East Window's medieval glass; the 13th-century city walls — walk the Bootham Bar to Monk Bar stretch for Minster views; and the Jorvik Viking Centre riding you through excavated 10th-century York, smells included. Betty's tea rooms (queue-worthy, or we time it) supplies the Yorkshire Fat Rascal. Half a day done briskly; a full day done properly.
Cambridge: Punting Past the Poem
劍橋(Cambridge)is best read from the water: a chauffeured punt down the Backs glides past King's College Chapel(國王學院禮拜堂), the Bridge of Sighs and under the Mathematical Bridge — 45 minutes of the finest architecture-per-metre in Britain. The Chinese-reader layer is unique here: 徐志摩's《再別康橋》made this river sacred to generations — the memorial stone bearing his lines sits in King's College grounds by the willow he wrote of, and standing there closes a loop a billion readers know. Add King's Chapel's fan vaulting (evensong if timing allows), the Fitzwilliam Museum's free treasures, and Grantchester Meadows for the orchard tea Rupert Brooke immortalised. York-to-Cambridge is the Grand Tour's Day 8-9 descent — history thinning gracefully into the London return. 微信預約及微信收款。
