How Payment Works in the UK
The payment landscape for Chinese travellers in Britain: card is king — the UK is nearly cashless, and contactless tap works everywhere (Visa/Mastercard universally; UnionPay 银联 accepted at many but not all merchants — carry a Visa/Mastercard backup). WeChat Pay and Alipay: acceptance has grown, especially at tourist-facing shops, Chinese restaurants and some attractions in London and major cities, but it's far from universal — don't rely on it as your only method. Cash: carry £30-50 for small village shops, tips and honesty boxes, but you'll rarely need more. Forex tip: pay by card and let your bank convert (skip airport exchange counters with brutal rates), or use a multi-currency travel card.
