The drive north

From Edinburgh Airport the route runs onto the M90 and over the Queensferry Crossing, then east through Fife on the A92 and A91 into St Andrews. Journey time is around 70 to 80 minutes without incident, and the crossing itself is genuinely worth looking up for: three bridges stand side by side over the Firth of Forth, one Victorian rail cantilever and two road bridges of different centuries. In high wind the newest crossing stays open when the older road bridge would not, which is why this is the reliable winter route north.

Golf bags and how many actually fit

This is the question that decides the vehicle, and vague answers help nobody. A full-size tour bag takes far more space than a suitcase of the same weight. In practice, four golfers with four full bags and four cases will not fit one MPV comfortably, and we will tell you that before you book rather than at the kerb. Depending on the mix of bags, cabin cases and hold luggage, the honest answer is often two cars for a fourball travelling with everything, or one car if bags are travelling separately to the hotel. Send us the actual bag and case count and we will give you a straight answer.

Early tee times and the return flight

A first-light tee time means leaving your Edinburgh or St Andrews hotel long before breakfast service starts, and a chauffeur who is already outside when you come down. On the return, we work backwards from the flight rather than forwards from the round: check-in cut-off, the crossing, and a realistic buffer for the A91 behind farm traffic. If the round is likely to overrun the flight, we say so at the planning stage. Nobody wants to discover a timing problem on the eighteenth green.

Booking a golf transfer properly

  1. Give the exact number of golf bags, suitcases and cabin bags — not just headcount.
  2. Give the tee time and the return flight time in the same message.
  3. We confirm how many cars the luggage genuinely requires.
  4. A fixed all-in figure covers both legs, including the bridge and airport charges.

Frequently asked

Can four golfers with full bags travel in one car?

Usually not comfortably, once suitcases are added. Send us the exact bag and case count and we will confirm whether one car works or two are needed.

Do you cover the other Fife courses?

Yes — Kingsbarns, Carnoustie and the Fife coast courses are all regular runs from Edinburgh Airport and are quoted the same way.
