The luggage of a long stay

People returning for three or four weeks travel heavier than holidaymakers: presents at Christmas, children's equipment, and often things being brought back for family. Add the return leg, where the cases go home fuller than they came. Where a family flies in annually, we usually know the pattern by the second year and plan the vehicle accordingly without asking the same questions again.

Arriving to a house rather than a hotel

Returning residents are not going to a city-centre hotel with a forecourt. They are going to a family house in a suburb, a village in the Lothians, or a farm road in Fife — sometimes to a property that has been empty and cold, in the dark, in December. We drive to the door, and where the address is a rural one we get the approach details in advance rather than circling a village at 23:00 looking for an unmarked turning.

Difficult arrivals

Not every return is a happy one. People fly back at short notice for illness or a funeral, often exhausted and on the first flight they could get. Those arrivals ask for very little: a car that is already booked, a driver who is there, and no conversation unless it is wanted. We do not ask why someone is travelling. If the plans change at short notice because circumstances change, we move the booking without a discussion about fees.

For a return trip home

1. Send the full home address including any rural approach detail.
2. Book the return leg at the same time — cases go home fuller.
3. Tell us if the house has been empty, so arrival timing matters more.
4. If plans change at short notice, message us — we move the booking.
