Freshers' fortnight is a genuine surge

For roughly two weeks in September the airport, the accommodation offices and the roads around the university quarter all run at capacity simultaneously. Halls have assigned arrival slots, and missing yours can mean waiting hours for a key. Bristo Square, George Square and the Pollock Halls approaches are congested all day. Book the transfer as soon as the accommodation slot is confirmed, because in that fortnight availability genuinely runs out.

A year's luggage is not a week's luggage

A student moving for the year typically brings two large checked cases, a cabin bag, bedding, and sometimes a bicycle or a musical instrument, with two parents and their own luggage on top. That is beyond one vehicle more often than families expect. Count everything honestly when you enquire — including anything bought at the airport or shipped ahead — and we will confirm whether the party needs a second car. It is a far better conversation at booking than on the kerb outside halls.

The parents' return leg

The leg families forget is the one four days later, when the parents fly home and the student stays. That return trip is usually from a hotel rather than the halls, often early, and frequently in a very different mood from the arrival.
