What long-stay parking actually costs you

Airport parking is priced per day and rises steeply with duration, so a fortnight costs disproportionately more than a long weekend. Beyond the fee itself there are three costs people forget: the drive out at an antisocial hour to catch an early flight, the shuttle or walk between car park and terminal with luggage, and the risk of returning from a fortnight abroad to a car that will not start on a cold January morning. For a short trip, parking usually wins on money. For a fortnight with two or more travellers, the gap narrows sharply.

The whole-car point

Our fare is for the vehicle, not per seat. That single fact changes the arithmetic completely for a family or a couple travelling together: two people share one figure, four people share the same figure. Compared with per-day parking that accrues whether you are one traveller or five, a whole-car transfer scales in exactly the opposite direction. Work out your own numbers with your actual trip length and party size rather than assuming either option is obviously cheaper.

The part that is not about money

Two arguments survive even when parking is cheaper. The first is the 04:00 start: driving yourself to a 06:00 flight after four hours' sleep, in the dark, in winter, is the part of the trip people most regret. The second is the return — landing at 23:30 after a long day of travel and then having to drive home is genuinely worse than being driven. Some regular travellers park for short trips and book a car for the early and late ones. That is a perfectly sensible split.
