The shortest run we do

Livingston is around 15 minutes from the airport, Bathgate about 20, West Calder and Linlithgow roughly 20 to 25. Being this close changes the practical picture: an early flight from a West Lothian address means leaving the house at 04:30 rather than 04:00, and a late landing means being home before midnight rather than well after it. We are based in West Calder, so these are not routes we look up — they are the roads outside the door.

For residents flying out

The county has a large commuter population flying regularly from Edinburgh, and the recurring question is the same as anywhere: park or be driven. The difference here is that the drive is so short that the parking fee for anything longer than a couple of nights stops making sense quickly, particularly with two or more travellers, because our fare covers the whole car. For a week abroad from a Livingston address the sums are usually not close.

Linlithgow, and why it is worth a stop

Linlithgow Palace stands roofless beside its loch, the birthplace of both James V and Mary Queen of Scots, and it is fifteen minutes from the airport — close enough that guests with a long connection sometimes go there and come back rather than sit in the terminal. The Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies are twenty minutes further west, and the Forth Bridges are twenty minutes north. For a half-day between flights, this small county holds an unreasonable amount.
