What Fits In A Glasgow Day
Greenock Ocean Terminal is on the Clyde, about 40 minutes by road from central Glasgow. A comfortable day: Glasgow Cathedral and the Necropolis first, then the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum which is free and genuinely world class, then lunch in the West End, then either Buchanan Street for shopping or the Mackintosh trail at the Willow Tea Rooms and the Lighthouse. Groups with less energy do Kelvingrove plus lunch plus shopping and skip the cathedral. Groups with more do a Clyde waterfront loop including the Riverside Museum, which is worth seeing for the building alone. Glasgow is a compact city and the walking between sights is short once you are dropped at the right door.
Greenock Specifics
Two things about this port. First, many ships calling at Greenock are on a Britain and Ireland itinerary with an early sail away, sometimes 16:00 or 16:30, so the usable day is shorter than at Invergordon. We plan accordingly and do not overload the morning. Second, Greenock is also the gateway to Loch Lomond and Stirling, so if your group has seen Glasgow before, the countryside is the better call. Shopping is a common priority for Asian guests and Buchanan Street plus the Style Mile covers most needs, with Braehead as an under the radar alternative that is closer to the port.
