The Four Main Options

St Michaels Mount is 45 minutes away, a castle and church on a tidal island reached by a granite causeway at low tide and by boat at high tide, so the tide table decides how you get there and we check it before recommending the timing. The Eden Project is 45 minutes in the other direction, two enormous biomes holding a rainforest and a Mediterranean climate in a former china clay pit, which works particularly well in bad weather. St Ives is 50 minutes, an artists town with a Tate gallery, steep lanes and a harbour beach. Lands End is 70 minutes and is honestly more about having been there than about what is there.

Timing And Cornish Roads

Cornwall punishes optimistic planning. The roads are narrow, often single track with hedges above head height so you cannot see ahead, and summer traffic on the A30 can add 30 minutes without warning. Two destinations plus lunch is the realistic maximum on a nine hour call, and we build the return leg with a larger cushion than usual because the A30 is the only real road out. If the call is short, Falmouth itself has the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Pendennis Castle built by Henry VIII, and gardens at Trebah and Glendurgan that are 20 minutes away and spectacular in spring.
