Greenwich is a World Heritage Site and a genuinely good half day on foot: the Royal Observatory and the prime meridian on the hill with the best skyline view in London, the Cutty Sark, the painted hall of the Old Royal Naval College which is often called the Sistine Chapel of the UK, the Queens House and Greenwich Market. Where a private car earns its place from a London berth: Windsor Castle at 70 minutes, Hampton Court at 45, Oxford or the Cotswolds on a long stay, Heathrow or Gatwick on the departure day with luggage, and any day where an elderly guest needs door to door.
