Typical days
Most legs run two to three hours of actual driving, split by stops. The longest single day on the ten-day loop is around four hours, and we break it with a proper lunch rather than a service station.
Stops
We stop roughly every ninety minutes. Some are viewpoints, some are simply because someone needs a coffee. Neither requires a discussion.
If you want to go slower
Say so on day one. We can drop a stop and spend longer somewhere you like. The itinerary is a plan, not a contract with the road.
How long the drive really takes
Map estimates in the Highlands are typically a third optimistic. Single-track roads mean constant pulling in to pass, and in summer add motorhomes: a two-hour leg is closer to three. We plan on real times, which is why our days look shorter on paper and actually finish.
What the vehicle actually holds
The Alphard and Vellfire seat seven, but seven seats and seven suitcases are different problems. With the rear row up, the boot takes about four 26-inch cases — hence four guests with full luggage. Five or more with checked bags means a second vehicle, and we say so before you book rather than at the kerb.
How weather changes the day
Four seasons in a day is not a joke here. We do not cancel for rain — we reorder. If Quiraing is clouded in we go to Neist Point and come back the next morning. That flexibility is the practical value of a private vehicle.
