Getting There
About five hours from Edinburgh, two and a half from Inverness. The Skye Bridge is free and open all year. The Mallaig ferry is scenic but slower and needs booking — we usually suggest taking the bridge out and considering the ferry back if time allows.
Main sights
The Quiraing, Old Man of Storr, Fairy Pools, Neist Point, Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls, Dunvegan Castle. Two full days lets you see them all without rushing.
When to go
May and September bring good light, fewer midges and moderate crowds. June and July have the longest days (nearly seventeen hours of daylight) but are busy months, with midges in the west. Winter is the most dramatic, but with only six to seven hours of daylight and some roads may close.
Road Conditions
Most of the island is single-track road with passing places. Not especially difficult, but it demands constant attention, and the scenery is to the side, not ahead — the driver sees the least. That's why most visitors to Skye choose a private driver.

How long each driving day really is
Most legs run two to three hours of actual driving, broken by stops. The longest single day on the ten-day loop is around four hours, and we break it with a proper lunch rather than a service station. We stop roughly every ninety minutes — some are viewpoints, some are simply because someone wants a coffee. Highland roads need extra allowance: what the map calls two hours is closer to three.
What the vehicle actually holds
The Alphard and Vellfire seat seven, but seven seats and seven suitcases are different problems. With the rear row up, the boot takes roughly four 26-inch cases. That is why we say four guests with full luggage — for five or more with checked bags we arrange a second vehicle rather than promising a squeeze that does not work.
What we will not do
We will not push you into shops or restaurants that pay commission, add items you did not ask for and charge for them, or tell you a hotel is good if we have not used it. If your plan does not fit the days, or self-drive would genuinely be better value for you, or a small-group tour suits you more — we will say so, even when it costs us the booking.
The rhythm of stops
We stop roughly every ninety minutes. Some are viewpoints, some are simply because someone wants a coffee or a toilet. On some Highland stretches there is nothing for forty miles, so these stops are planned rather than improvised.
What language support actually means
Our chauffeur-guides speak Mandarin, Cantonese and English, from first enquiry to final drop-off. In Edinburgh you can manage in English. On a single-track Highland road when the weather turns, having someone explain the options in your own language is a different kind of comfort.
