Glasgow
Scotland's largest city, with business concentrated around George Square and the International Financial Services District. An hour's drive from Edinburgh straight along the M8. Traffic into the city is worst 7–9am and 4–6pm; outside those times it's fifty-five minutes.
Glasgow Low Emission Zone
Glasgow has a Low Emission Zone (LEZ); non-compliant vehicles entering the city centre are fined. Our vehicles comply, so you needn't worry — but check this carefully if you're considering a hire car.
Manchester
The business centre of north-west England. About three and a half hours' drive from Glasgow (M74/M6), about four from Edinburgh. The road is dual-carriageway motorway — efficient but not much to see, ideal for working or resting.
Planning Between the Two Cities
If you have meetings in both, the most practical option is two nights in one city and a day trip to the other. Four hours each way isn't a comfortable daily commute. We'll suggest where to stay based on your meeting schedule.
Onward Travel
South from Manchester: Birmingham is two hours, London four. Manchester Airport has international flights, and many clients fly out from there rather than returning to Scotland.
What the driver-guide actually does
Driving is half of it. Our drivers are trained guides: they will explain the history and landscape if you want it, and stay quiet if you would rather look out of the window. Practical help means luggage, restaurant recommendations, ticket queues, and knowing which car park has space. We do not take commissions from shops or restaurants, which is why our recommendations are worth something.
Language support
English, Mandarin and Cantonese throughout — from the first enquiry to the final drop-off, not a translation app. In Edinburgh you can manage in English. On a single-track Highland road when the weather turns, having someone explain the options in your own language is a different kind of comfort.
How long each driving day really is
Most legs run two to three hours of actual driving, broken by stops. The longest single day on the ten-day loop is around four hours, and we break it with a proper lunch rather than a service station. We stop roughly every ninety minutes — some are viewpoints, some are simply because someone wants a coffee. Highland roads need extra allowance: what the map calls two hours is closer to three.
What we will not do
We will not push you into shops or restaurants that pay commission, add items you did not ask for and charge for them, or tell you a hotel is good if we have not used it. If your plan does not fit the days, or self-drive would genuinely be better value for you, or a small-group tour suits you more — we will say so, even when it costs us the booking.
