The Famous Colourful Houses
The row of pink, blue and green houses along Quay Street is Portree's signature view — best photographed from two angles: down at the pier itself looking back at the row, or from the elevated viewpoint at The Lump (a 5-minute walk up from the town square) which frames the whole harbour with fishing boats in front. Morning light hits the houses directly; evening gives softer tones with harbour reflections. The scene appears in countless Skye postcards — and it's genuinely as pretty in person.
