A Warrior's Instrument
The Great Highland Bagpipe（蘇格蘭高地風笛）was historically an instrument of war — pipers led Highland clans into battle, and after the 1745 Jacobite rising the instrument was effectively suppressed along with tartan. A single piper produces sound through a chanter and three drones, powered by a bag squeezed under the arm — it never stops for breath, which is exactly what makes the sound so haunting. Today over 5,000 pipers compete worldwide, and the World Pipe Band Championships happen every August in Glasgow.
