Forty-five minutes, a guide who explains the colleges, and you stay dry. The obvious choice for most guests and for anyone over sixty.
Self-punting
Cheaper, harder than it looks, and genuinely entertaining. The pole sticks in the mud; the standard outcome is either losing the pole or falling in.
Timing and weather
The Backs are prettiest in late afternoon light. Punts run in light rain but not in wind. Booking ahead in summer saves a queue.
The rhythm of stops
We stop roughly every ninety minutes. Some are viewpoints, some are simply because someone wants a coffee or a toilet. On some Highland stretches there is nothing for forty miles, so these stops are planned rather than improvised.
What we will not do
We do not push you into shops or restaurants that pay commission — we take none. We do not add unrequested items and charge for them, or recommend hotels we have not used. If your plan does not fit the days, or self-drive suits you better, we say so even when it costs us the booking.
How weather changes the day
Four seasons in a day is not a joke here. We do not cancel for rain — we reorder. If Quiraing is clouded in we go to Neist Point and come back the next morning. That flexibility is the practical value of a private vehicle.
Booking and changes
A £180 deposit secures the dates and the balance is settled before departure. Changes more than 30 days out are usually free; inside 30 days it depends on whether we can refill the slot. The deposit is non-refundable, stated before you pay. If we are the ones who cannot deliver, we refund in full including the deposit.
