Weather protection
Scotland will test your equipment. Weather-sealed bodies and lenses, a rain cover, and more lens cloths than you think you need.
Tripods
Essential for blue hour and waterfalls. Also the first thing the wind takes on an exposed ridge — hang your bag from the centre column.
Filters
A polariser for water and foliage, and neutral density if you want long exposures on the coast. Graduated filters help with Highland skies.
How long the drive really takes
Map estimates in the Highlands are typically a third optimistic. Single-track roads mean constant pulling in to pass, and in summer add motorhomes: a two-hour leg is closer to three. We plan on real times, which is why our days look shorter on paper and actually finish.
What language support actually means
Our chauffeur-guides speak Mandarin, Cantonese and English, from first enquiry to final drop-off. In Edinburgh you can manage in English. On a single-track Highland road when the weather turns, having someone explain the options in your own language is a different kind of comfort.
Booking and changes
A £180 deposit secures the dates and the balance is settled before departure. Changes more than 30 days out are usually free; inside 30 days it depends on whether we can refill the slot. The deposit is non-refundable, stated before you pay. If we are the ones who cannot deliver, we refund in full including the deposit.
What the vehicle actually holds
The Alphard and Vellfire seat seven, but seven seats and seven suitcases are different problems. With the rear row up, the boot takes about four 26-inch cases — hence four guests with full luggage. Five or more with checked bags means a second vehicle, and we say so before you book rather than at the kerb.
