If we arrange it
We book hotels along the route, £150 per person per night for a four-star hotel, charged only once confirmed. The advantage is locations that fit the driving plan — you won't have to detour forty minutes to your hotel after a tiring day.
Booking Yourself
Absolutely fine — some guests have hotel loyalty points to use. Send us your confirmations before departure so we can check the locations. We've had guests book a hotel that looked central on the map but actually added ninety minutes' driving.
Where You Stay on the Ten-Day Tour
Edinburgh, Stirling, Glasgow, Manchester, Bath, London (two nights), York, Edinburgh. Nine nights. Each night's location is chosen for the next day's route, not for being the cheapest.
Book Early for Popular Months
Highland accommodation for June to August is usually fully booked by February, with Skye and the NC500 filling fastest. During Hogmanay and the August Fringe, Edinburgh hotels triple in price and are full by autumn. Don't leave these dates late.
What We Won't Do
We won't recommend a hotel we haven't stayed at. If you ask about one we don't know, we'll simply say so, rather than guessing or copying reviews.
How long each driving day really is
Most legs run two to three hours of actual driving, broken by stops. The longest single day on the ten-day loop is around four hours, and we break it with a proper lunch rather than a service station. We stop roughly every ninety minutes — some are viewpoints, some are simply because someone wants a coffee. Highland roads need extra allowance: what the map calls two hours is closer to three.
Why the route runs in this order
Geography decides the order, and fighting it wastes days. From Edinburgh the sensible flow is south through York and Manchester, down to Cambridge and London, then north again via the Lake District. You never double back, each day stays under four hours, and you finish in Edinburgh — flying home from the airport you arrived at rather than buying a one-way back to London.
What We Won't Do
We will not push you into shops or restaurants that pay commission, add items you did not ask for and charge for them, or tell you a hotel is good if we have not used it. If your plan does not fit the days, or self-drive would genuinely be better value for you, or a small-group tour suits you more — we will say so, even when it costs us the booking.
