When
September to March, on clear nights with high solar activity. The further north the better — Caithness, Orkney and the north coast have the best odds. Edinburgh occasionally sees it, but only during strong activity.
Realistic odds
There may be a handful of good displays a year visible from mainland Scotland. Planning a trip specifically for aurora is a gamble we would not encourage — unlike northern Norway or Iceland, Scotland's latitude is marginal.
If conditions align
On winter trips we watch the forecasts. If the numbers look good we will drive you somewhere dark — away from city light with a northern view. No promises, but we will not miss the chance either.
Practicalities
Dress for standing outside for an hour or two at freezing point with wind chill. A tripod is essential; phones will not capture it. And bring patience — the aurora does not arrive on schedule.
Better reasons to come in winter
If you come for the aurora you may be disappointed; if you come for snow, solitude and low golden light, winter will not let you down. Treat the lights as a bonus rather than the plan.
每日实际车程有几长
多数路段实际车程两至三个钟，中间有停留。十日环岛最长那日大约四个钟，我们会用一顿正经午餐分隔开，而不是高速公路服务区。大约每九十分钟停一次——有些是观景点，有些纯粹因为有人想饮杯咖啡。高地公路要特别留意：地图估两个钟，实际接近三个钟。
车辆实际载得多少
Toyota Alphard 和 Vellfire 是七座，但七个座位和七件行李是两回事。第三排立起那阵，尾箱大约放到四件 26 吋行李箱。所以我们说「最多四位客人连全套行李」——五位或以上有托运行李，我们会安排第二架车，不会勉强塞。
我们不会做的嘢
我们不会迫你入有佣金的商店或者餐厅。不会在你未问之前加项目再收钱。不会话一间我们没有住过的酒店好。如果你的计划日数不够、或者自驾对你来说其实更抵、又或者小团游更适合你，我们会直接说——就算这样会少做一单。
停留节奏
我们大约每九十分钟停一次。有些是观景点，有些纯粹因为有人想饮杯咖啡或者去洗手间。高地部分路段四十英里没有任何设施，所以这些停留点是预先规划的，不是即兴。
实际车程要几耐
地图估的时间在高地通常乐观三成。单线道要不停靠哪会车，夏天再加露营车，两个钟的路段实际接近三个钟。我们排行程用真实时间，所以我们的日程纸面上看起来短些——但不会做不完。
语言支援实际是怎么
我们司机导游会说普通话、广东话和英文。由第一次查询到最后一程送机都是同一种语言。在爱丁堡你用英文大致应付到;但在高地单线道遇上天气突变，有人可以用你的语言解释情况，是另一种安心。
应该带什么
有帽的防水外套胜过雨伞(风会吹烂把遮)、分层衣物胜过一件厚褛、有抓地力的步行鞋。夏天最高十七至二十度、晚上跌到十度、高地更冻。这些不是客套提醒，是每个月都有客人低估的嘢。
