Vehicle Cost
A 10-day tour is £4,845 for the whole vehicle, not per person. Split four ways, that's £1,211.25 each — roughly SGD 2,200 or MYR 7,100 at current rates. Exchange rates change; this is for reference only.
Accommodation
If we book for you, 4-star hotels cost £150 per person per night. Nine nights in two rooms is £5,400. Travellers from Singapore and Malaysia often ask whether they can stay somewhere cheaper — you can, but Highland options are limited, and cutting too much often means an extra 40 minutes' driving each day.
Food and Drink
Pub lunches cost £15–20 per person; a proper dinner £35–60. Pricier than Singapore, but more reasonable than upmarket restaurants in central London. Highland choices are few, so we plan lunch stops in advance.
Flights
Direct return flights from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to London cost about SGD 1,200–1,800 or MYR 4,000–6,000 in quieter months, and can double in popular months. School holidays are the most expensive. If your dates are flexible, fares drop noticeably after mid-September.
Total
Four people, ten days, two mid-range rooms, including admissions and meals but excluding flights: about £13,250, or roughly £3,310 each. Add flights, and a 10-day UK trip for a family of four from Singapore or Malaysia comes to roughly SGD 20,000–24,000 or MYR 68,000–80,000 in total.
How long each driving day really is
Most legs run two to three hours of actual driving, broken by stops. The longest single day on the ten-day loop is around four hours, and we break it with a proper lunch rather than a service station. We stop roughly every ninety minutes — some are viewpoints, some are simply because someone wants a coffee. Highland roads need extra allowance: what the map calls two hours is closer to three.
Why the route runs in this order
Geography decides the order, and fighting it wastes days. From Edinburgh the sensible flow is south through York and Manchester, down to Cambridge and London, then north again via the Lake District. You never double back, each day stays under four hours, and you finish in Edinburgh — flying home from the airport you arrived at rather than buying a one-way back to London.
What we will not do
We will not push you into shops or restaurants that pay commission, add items you did not ask for and charge for them, or tell you a hotel is good if we have not used it. If your plan does not fit the days, or self-drive would genuinely be better value for you, or a small-group tour suits you more — we will say so, even when it costs us the booking.
