What a day trip covers
Leave Edinburgh at eight, reach Glencoe by eleven, Loch Ness by two, back by eight. You will have seen both, from the road, in the middle of the day.
What three days adds
Mornings and evenings. The Highlands at eight in the morning and seven at night look like a different country from the same places at one in the afternoon.
Who should do which
On a tight schedule with one free day, take the day trip; it is genuinely worth doing. If you have three days spare and came to Scotland for the landscape, the day trip will feel like a preview.
The rhythm of stops
We stop roughly every ninety minutes. Some are viewpoints, some are simply because someone wants a coffee or a toilet. On some Highland stretches there is nothing for forty miles, so these stops are planned rather than improvised.
What the vehicle actually holds
The Alphard and Vellfire seat seven, but seven seats and seven suitcases are different problems. With the rear row up, the boot takes about four 26-inch cases — hence a maximum of four guests per car. For five or more we quote separately (two cars or a Mercedes Vito), and we confirm this before you book.
