Spring

Beltane Fire Festival on Calton Hill on 30 April. Whisky festivals in Speyside during May. Both are considerably less crowded than August events.

Summer

Highland games from May. The Fringe, International Festival, Book Festival and Tattoo all through August. Peak everything.

Scotland's Festival Calendar

Autumn and winter

Whisky Month in October, St Andrew's Day on 30 November, Hogmanay at New Year, and Burns Night on 25 January.

The rhythm of stops

We stop roughly every ninety minutes. Some are viewpoints, some are simply because someone wants a coffee or a toilet. On some Highland stretches there is nothing for forty miles, so these stops are planned rather than improvised.

What language support actually means

Our chauffeur-guides speak Mandarin, Cantonese and English, from first enquiry to final drop-off. In Edinburgh you can manage in English. On a single-track Highland road when the weather turns, having someone explain the options in your own language is a different kind of comfort.

What we will not do

We do not push you into shops or restaurants that pay commission — we take none. We do not add unrequested items and charge for them, or recommend hotels we have not used. If your plan does not fit the days, or self-drive suits you better, we say so even when it costs us the booking.

What the vehicle actually holds

The Alphard and Vellfire seat seven, but seven seats and seven suitcases are different problems. With the rear row up, the boot takes about four 26-inch cases — hence four guests with full luggage. Five or more with checked bags means a second vehicle, and we say so before you book rather than at the kerb.
