Tour length

A standard distillery tour runs ninety minutes including tasting. Premium tours run three hours. Two standard tours plus travel fills a day.

Driving and tasting

This is the practical argument for a driver. Scotland's drink-drive limit is lower than England's and effectively means no alcohol at all.

A Distillery Day in Speyside

Which to choose

Glenfiddich and Glenlivet have the most polished visitor experience. Smaller distilleries like Benromach or Aberlour give a closer look at production.

How long the drive really takes

Map estimates in the Highlands are typically a third optimistic. Single-track roads mean constant pulling in to pass, and in summer add motorhomes: a two-hour leg is closer to three. We plan on real times, which is why our days look shorter on paper and actually finish.

What to bring

A waterproof jacket with a hood beats an umbrella, which the wind destroys. Layers beat one thick coat. Shoes with grip matter. Summer highs are 17–20°C, evenings drop to 10, and the Highlands are colder. Guests underestimate this every single month.
