Scale
1,700 square miles, the largest national park in Britain. You do not see it in a day; you pass through it. The A9 crosses the western edge, and most itineraries that mention the Cairngorms actually mean this stretch.
Around Aviemore
Aviemore is the practical base. The funicular at Cairngorm Mountain, the beach at Loch Morlich and the Rothiemurchus forest are all within twenty minutes and suit a half day.
Wildlife
Red squirrels, ospreys in summer and a reindeer herd on the mountain. None is guaranteed, and anyone promising sightings is overselling. Rothiemurchus forest gives the best odds for red squirrels.
Autumn colour
Mid-October is the best of the year, with birch and larch turning gold against dark pine. Perthshire nearby — Dunkeld and Loch Tummel — has denser autumn colour and is on the way.
Fitting it in
The Cairngorms lie on the A9 between Edinburgh and Inverness, so they cost no detour if your itinerary includes Loch Ness or Skye. There is skiing in winter, though for most Asian visitors the snow scenery alone is the draw.

停留节奏
我们大约每九十分钟停一次。有些是观景点，有些纯粹因为有人想饮杯咖啡或者去洗手间。高地部分路段四十英里没有任何设施，所以这些停留点是预先规划的，不是即兴。
实际车程要几耐
地图估的时间在高地通常乐观三成。单线道要不停靠哪会车，夏天再加露营车，两个钟的路段实际接近三个钟。我们排行程用真实时间，所以我们的日程纸面上看起来短些——但不会做不完。
