VAT refunds are gone
The UK removed tax-free shopping for overseas visitors in 2021. Do not plan a shopping budget around a refund that no longer exists — many travel articles still have this wrong, and it is the point we most often have to correct.
Worth buying in Scotland
Cashmere — Johnstons of Elgin is the best-known Scottish maker — Harris Tweed with its certification mark, and distillery-exclusive whisky bottlings. These three are genuinely better bought here.
Not worth it
The tartan souvenir shops on the Royal Mile mostly sell the same imported stock at inflated prices. Standard whisky bottlings are often cheaper in supermarkets than at distilleries. We will tell you this directly.
Bicester Village
An outlet an hour northwest of London with most luxury brands, popular with Asian visitors and correspondingly busy. Allow four hours including travel; weekends are extremely crowded. If your itinerary includes London and you want luxury brands, the pricing is genuinely competitive.
Luggage space
Ten days in Britain usually means purchases and guests underestimate this. Leave one case half empty or plan a shipping stop in London. Whisky over 100ml must be checked, so confirm your destination's allowance before buying six bottles.

多数路段实际车程两至三个钟，中间有停留。十日环岛最长那日大约四个钟，我们会用一顿正经午餐分隔开，而不是高速公路服务区。大约每九十分钟停一次——有些是观景点，有些纯粹因为有人想饮杯咖啡。高地公路要特别留意：地图估两个钟，实际接近三个钟。
车辆实际载得多少
Toyota Alphard 和 Vellfire 是七座，但七个座位和七件行李是两回事。第三排立起那阵，尾箱大约放到四件 26 吋行李箱。所以我们说「最多四位客人连全套行李」——五位或以上有托运行李，我们会安排第二架车，不会勉强塞。

实际车程要几耐
地图估的时间在高地通常乐观三成。单线道要不停靠哪会车，夏天再加露营车，两个钟的路段实际接近三个钟。我们排行程用真实时间，所以我们的日程纸面上看起来短些——但不会做不完。
停留节奏
我们大约每九十分钟停一次。有些是观景点，有些纯粹因为有人想饮杯咖啡或者去洗手间。高地部分路段四十英里没有任何设施，所以这些停留点是预先规划的，不是即兴。
