How long does it take to drive between Edinburgh and Glasgow airports?
The road distance is about 45 miles, mostly on the M8 motorway. Allow about an hour in normal traffic. At weekday peak times (roughly 07:00–09:30 and 16:00–18:30), during roadworks or in snow, it can take noticeably longer, so we plan departure times with a buffer.

Will you make your rebooked flight?
Work backwards from the new departure time. Check your airline's bag-drop closing time (often around 40–60 minutes before departure for short-haul, longer for long-haul — confirm in your booking) and add time for security. A simple rule we use:
- Bag-drop closing time at the new airport
- minus about 1 hour driving
- minus 30–45 minutes buffer for traffic and loading
For example, if bag drop closes at 18:00 at Glasgow, we aim to leave Edinburgh Airport by about 16:15–16:30. If the margin is too tight, we will tell you honestly rather than take the booking.

What about costs and your airline claim?
